About DNA®
Early Years
After three years as The National Kitchen and Bath Association Director of Training, David returned
with Glenda to the hills of East Tennessee. In 1989 they formed David Newton and Associates (DNA®).
Their goal was to provide training programs specifically geared to the Kitchen and Bath Industry.
Colleagues in the speaking industry cautioned them to be more diversified. The general theory is that a
professional speaker/trainer can present a given program to any industry. David and Glenda disagreed
with this concept. They feel that a customized program means just that - "customized." In other words,
information based on years of experience and knowledge and industry specific. Programs unique for the clients'
individual needs and methods of doing business.
Customization Services
In 1989 DNA® began creating programs for clients using the client's own vendors and CAD programs.
Customized workbooks were provided so associates could better understand how their specific products
and methods would work with generic kitchen and bath planning standards. David and Glenda thought
it was an important service for the industry in 1989 and they think it is just as important today.
Varied Client Base
DNA®'s clients have included manufacturers, manufacture representatives, distributors, and individual kitchen
and bath dealers. National and regional associations have benefited by providing their membership with DNA®
customized programs. David is also a regular presenter at kitchen and bath trade shows as well as
builder-related shows.
Media Involvement
DNA® is contacted on a regular basis for interviews on various topics relevant to our industry.
Articles and comments have appeared in most of our trade publications and several shelter magazines.
David also appeared in an HGTV episode on bath design.
Books and Workbooks
Since 1989, DNA® has produced several custom designed workbooks for their clients. Finally,
there is a book for the industry. After presenting almost 30 chapter programs on the subject of Total
Quality Management (TQM), David was asked by NKBA to put his ideas on TQM into print. Bringing Total
Quality Management to Your Kitchen & Bath Business was a team effort of the DNA® staff. David
put his thoughts on paper after much research by Glenda and their daughter, Sheila Newton-Ciserella.
Bringing Total Quality Management to Your Kitchen & Bath Business is available from the NKBA Bookstore
or AMAZON.COM.
DNA®'s Location
DNA® has moved into a new office. Since DNA® travels to specific locations to present programs,
there is no need for a high profile location. The new office sits in the middle of 13 rural acres in the heart
of the fastest growing area of Knoxville, TN. This acreage has been named GlenDavid and will
later host other buildings in addition to the existing DNA® office, carriage house, and original log
cabin. DNA® is 10 minutes from Interstate 40/75 and 30 minutes from the Knoxville (TYS) airport. The office design is rustic
and combined with their love of antiques. A second phase of the construction plan will be completed
at a later date.
